‘Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth’. Rumi, Essential Rumi
A 5-part online course, taught by Path Retreats co-Founder Turiya Hanover and Abigail Iquo Isuo Kirmizitoprak
Today as women, we are find ourselves faced with old, conditioned programming. The history of women and women’s role models, from Mary Magdalene, Jesus’s beloved, to Maria, to Marilyn Monroe, to our mothers and the women of today have gone through massive changes culturally, socially, psychologically and spiritually. We are in a profound phase in evolution which needs to be understood. New individual and collective ways need to be explored. Specifically, in these very intense times of home isolation you may be faced with some strong and challenging issues. What is my worth as a woman today? Do I have the right to have boundaries? How do I relate to my own body, emotions, and inner experiences? How am I able to deal with my fear and panic? Am I able to actually feel safe at home? What is my purpose in this life right now? How can I find the sacred in my ordinary day to day life?
In this 5-part series we will meet weekly for 2 1/2 hours to explore various aspects of womanhood in these changing times. We will offer core teachings, techniques, practical exercises, and question & answer sessions.
Part 1: Resources and Resiliency: Dealing with Our Fears, Anxieties, Collective Traumas
In Part One, we will explore our fears, traumas, anxieties and our reaction to them. Often traumatic experiences make us feel unsafe and are contracted closed down processes that did not have the space to complete themselves.
- What actually creates safety in the body?
- How do you deal with all the agitation inside?
- How do you deal with feeling dissociated, or overanxious and maybe even depressed?
This week, we will work with understanding the ANS (Automatic Nervous System) and its function in the body and mind. You will also learn different kinds of resources…survival resources, creative resources, somatic resources, grounding resources and boundary resources and co-regulation. What helps you to use these resources and what happens in your body, heart and mind when you do?
Part 2: Relationship to your Body (Body Image)
In Part Two we will look at mechanisms such as comparison, self-criticism, self-loathing, judging of oneself and others, arrogance, etc. We will explore our relationship to our anger, because if we don’t have a healthy relationship to anger, it can turn on us as self-loathing. We will do body-oriented exercises and exploration, and find safety, fluidity and inner strength.
Part 3: Yearning to Connect with Yourself: Only You Can Discover What it is Like to Live in Your Body
In Part Three, we will look at how we have abandoned ourselves in order to fit into family and society. Society is frequently run by ideas and values such as success, perfection and competition, and these perceptions often amplify the loss of connection to our true individual expression and who we are. We will look at issues of separation, isolation and merging with life and love. We will discover what is true intimacy with ourselves, the other and the Divine. Today we have the capacity to host it all.
Part 4: Heart Break, Grief and the Unconscious Acting out of the Darkness: Accepting and Agreeing to Suffering and Rebirth
In Part Four, we look at suffering which comes out of resistance and it is something you refuse and cannot digest. At the same time, it is an invitation to dive into our darkness and explore and discover how we act out our negativity, insecurity and powerlessness through manipulations, control, victimhood, punishment, blame, self-pity, shaming and many others.
A healthy sense of self can make a profound difference in how we feel and function. Self-esteem is our basic sense of worth or value, the connection we have to ourselves. It is the degree to which we find respect and like ourselves. Good self-esteem means self-respect, a sense of self-worth, a feeling of basic goodness about oneself. Low self-esteem can mean constant self-doubt and self-criticism, social anxiety and isolation, suppressed anger, loneliness, and even shame. In this week, we will explore this very delicate and yet so powerful issue, sensing into our own totality, equanimity and learning how to voice our own truths.
Part 5. Exploring our Totality and True Wholeness as a Woman: Divine Ordinariness and Finding the Ordinary in the Extraordinary
What is particular about you and your unique gifts? How can you live an ordinary life with celebration and embrace the sacred in every moment?
The Sacred is being in alignment with what is, it is being 100% committed to the essence of life.
Our on-line courses have been designed as unique, one-time live offerings from our Leaders, and recordings of modules will not be available. Thank you for understanding, and enjoy the live course!
